The thread

I have this thing I love that happens sometimes, I read something, hear a song, come across an idea, see science and spiritual truths marry, or drink something in with my eyes and I feel like I get opened up into this place where I touch a thread of utter beauty that runs through things. It is like walking out of a building and stepping out onto the sidewalk and being struck by a gorgeous sunset you weren't expecting. I want to encounter, seek out, and find that experience as often as I can in life. I choose to actively look for it, like little miracles waiting to be discovered around every corner.

Because life can be fraught with problems and pain I think finding these things that can be magnificent in their simple abounding grace is necessary. It doesn't have to be a profound truth spoken by a phd or a painting by a famous artist, find it in the smile of someone you love, find it in the way a child laughs, find it in the smell of a coming rain or the way the sun shines through the leaves of trees like stained glass in a church. Find it where you can, look for it the way you looked to discover the world as you did as a child. Stand in the way your heart pauses in those moments, like it doesn't need to beat for just an instant because that little bit of enchantment you caught hold of was enough to sustain you.

I  know I will continue to seek out those moments, invest my energy in books, and walks and being present a little more so I can find them. I encourage anyone else reading this to do the same. Draw yourself out of any worry or pain or confusion by settling your attention on something a little more sublime.
